New York City residents and visitors always look forward to innovations brought to its neighborhoods by experienced restaurant entrepreneurs. In the city that "doesn't sleep", restaurant owners who have operated in New York City for a long time learn the knack of staying on top by spotting trends and adapting to the lifestyles and demands of the public.
So it is with the newly opened Le Grand Caffe.
Le Grand Caffe is a casual, new style cafe / brasserie restaurant located just north of the United Nations on 1st Avenue, at the foot of the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge at 59th Street in Manhattan. This is a trendy neighborhood just a block from Sutton Place. Le Grand Caffe is bright and airy with comfortable seating and pleasant surroundings. It is a new style American brasserie with classic European style furniture mixed with specially carved wooden tables and stools. Where most restaurants have simple tables and chairs, Le Grand Caffe gives its patrons a unique twist that makes it both a comfortable and cosmopolitan place to enjoy an affordable meal any time of day.
In the traditional of all brasseries, Le Grand Caffe offers full bar service with liquor, beer, and a selection of wines ~ accompanying a menu that is served all day. Similarly, as with all cafes, Le Grand Caffe offers a wide selection of cappuccino, espresso in a variety of assorted flavors that can be served with pastries.
A very interesting innovation added to this cafe / brasserie hybrid restaurant is that Le Grand Caffe has a Wood Stone oven in the dining room which creates a warm atmosphere and delivers the type of really tasty, thin crust pizza that New Yorkers enjoy! These wood stone oven pizzas are authentic Neapolitan style prepared by a talented and experienced pizza man. This Wood Stone oven can also be used to create flavorful hot sandwiches.
Another innovation is that Le Grand Caffe has three separate areas in the restaurant that can easily be used for meeting with friends or gathering for a friendly drink after work.
Breakfast at Le Grand Caffe is served from 7:00 am until noon. Lunch and late dinner are served from the same menu from 12:00 pm until 12:00 am.
The breakfast menu offers tasty omelettes made with organic eggs, and a multitude of toppings ~ bacon, ham, smoked salmon, feta, mozzarella, cheddar, roasted red peppers, wild mushrooms, and fresh veggies. Eggs Benedict have always been a favorite in brasseries. The buttermilk pancakes and whole wheat French toast are served with marmalade, maple syrup, and fresh fruit.
A soup bar offers a soup de jour along with chicken noodle, and a hearty lentil soup that is perfect for cold winter days.
Salads are made with healthy, fresh and delicious vegetables and dressings. The beet salad is wonderful.
Sandwiches include both burgers as well as paninis with a creative combination of the best of Italian meats, veggies and cheese. Heavenly!
Le Grand Caffe offers beef, turkey, and veggie burgers that are dressed with beefsteak tomato slices, lettuce and onion on a bun with fresh cut fries.
This new style restaurant will please any foodie's palette during breakfast, lunch, dinner, late dinner, or brunch. The innovations of this new, hybrid restaurant are both in its decor and ambiance as well as its overall menu - definitely worth a try. It is a perfect restaurant for this neighborhood and a terrific addition to New York City.
